Atrium
All of the design and engineering for Atrium was done on St. Maarten. The
eleven floors sit on 238 precast concrete piles. Their combined length is over a mile.
In addition, there is a 1076 ft2 glass roof over the large atrium which houses the lobby.
The glass roof was designed and installed by Gammans Architectural Products. Full
hurricane protection has been incorporated into the design of the hotel. The effectiveness
of the protection has been proven with the passing of Hurricane Luis and Hurricane
Lenny, both extreme hurricanes with winds over 200 miles per hour. The hotel
only suffered minimal cosmetic damages.
