The University of Sint Martin, located on Pond Island in the heart of Philipsburg,
is a step forward for St. Maarten. The modern building houses classrooms, computer
labs, and administrative offices. The school is optimistic that the construction of the
next phase, a second floor with additional classrooms, faculty and student
lounges, and more offices, will begin soon.

     The first phase of the University surrounds a central courtyard for the students to use between classes. The courtyard is planted with lush tropical palms and shrubs. It also centers around the mature palms from the original school and a tent with benches for studying of outdoor classes. The classrooms all have air conditioning and hurricane protection and are designed for a variety of uses. They are accessed by the deep verandah that surrounds the court.
